Pittsburgh Cycling Expo March 25, 2012.  The Montour Trail and Aerotech Designs are partnering to hold the first Pittsburgh Cycling Expo on Sunday March 25, 2012 at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott. The cost of the vendor area is $5. There is also a luncheon and fashion show for an additional cost. Mary Shaw and Roy Weil will be on the agenda after the fashion show, talking about the C&O Towpath, the Great Allegheny Passage, the Montour Trail Airport Connector and volunteerism. Please check the following web site for more information: www.pghcyclingexpo.com. Proceeds benefit our trail neighbor to the south, the Montour Trail. The Steel Valley Trail will be participating by having an information table in the vendor area.

2nd Annual H2O Walk for Water Walk for Life, April 28, 2012.  Sponsored by the Life's Journey Mentoring Program. More details to follow later.

KU Resources Clip And Snip Trip,  October 6, 2011.  KU Resources, as part of their Green Initiative, took their shears and lopers onto the trail for a clip and snip cleanup. Pictures. 

Biketoberfest 2011,  October 1, 2011.  The Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Biketoberfest on the Steel Valley Trail.  The starting location is The Historic Pump House, 880 E. Waterfront Drive, Munhall in Pittsburgh's Waterfront The Historic Pump House is owned and operated by Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area.  The event also includes a Community Heritage Market and other fall festivities. Details and Registration Form 

Major Trail Section Opens,  June 17, 2011.  A 3 mile trail section officially opened today connecting Grant Street in Duquesne to the Waterfront in Munhall.  This portion of the trail follows the old U.S. Steel Coke Gas Pipeline that supplied gas from the Clairton Coke Works to various mills along the river. There is now only a 1 mile section at Sandcaslte to complete in order to have a contiguous trail from Washington D.C to downtown Pittsburgh.  Piitsburgh Post Gazette article. KDKA report.
 
Sandcastle Signs Easement Agreement,
October 20, 2010.  Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and Sandcastle General Manager Damian Dondero signed an easement agreement that will allow for the Steel Valley Trail to connect to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, a crucial section of the Great Allegheny Passage and the 330+ mile trail system between downtown Pittsburgh and our nation's capital. Completeion of the Steel Valley Trail is scheduled for November 11, 2011.  Pittsburgh Post Gazette article.

Major Construction Milestone, July 7, 2010. The Steel Valley Trail section of the Great Allegheny Passage took another step towards completion.  Within a small time frame given to us by the railroads, two bridges that span several sets of tracks at two locations between Duquesne and the Waterfront were placed on their piers.  The importance of these bridges cannot be understated.
